So much beautiful vulnerability in here. Being sore all the time, feeling inadequate or like you're always playing catch up, needing to remind yourself of the reason for why you train even after years - I relate to it all.
Great interview. I remember when I interviewed DJ Koze for Pitchfork, he raved about his experiences with jiu-jitsu, and the effect it had on his mental health. He told me: “The first time I went, I had to puke after four minutes. Now I do it five times a week. I need it.... It makes you so addicted. You want to learn, you are thirsty for the knowledge—give me this knowledge so I don’t drown! Seriously, it is really a high. And then there is not so much pressure on the music anymore. And it’s nice.”
enjoyed this! used to be pro rugby and have been looking for an exercise 'thing' since stopping. it would be surfing but am nowhere near the coast. can definitely see the appeal in this
