Currently on holiday and on the other side of the world to my dog, and really feeling it after reading this.

Dogs do something special to us.

A beautiful tribute - it may be of little consolation, but it has helped me and I thought I would share: whenever I've experienced the passing of a pet I come back to this Greek epitaph for a dog named Patrice written ~3000 years ago. The grief and love you feel is enduring: https://sublimeinternet-public-storage-production.s3.amazonaws.com/media/images/thumbnails/curation/d28341db51954a2caa70ce27c95f3b93/thumbnail.png

As someone with a young son and an old dog this hits close to home. Lovely tribute, now excuse me while I go dry my face.

What a beautiful portrait of your boy Hank. Ironic the words come to us slow writers when we’re bereft and not wanting to have written. The part about Hank just wanted to be loved hit so hard. Sounds like you guys gave him that. All dogs do go to heaven too and they can have chocolate up there.

This was beautiful, bud. So sorry for your and your family’s loss. Hank’s sweetness even outmatched his farts.

They carry a piece of our hearts when they leave us. Godspeed, Hank.

Sorry to hear; had to take our 10-year old Staffy to the emergency vet recently and they said it didn't look good but he's been peppy as can be for a guy who lost his spleen a month ago. Glad the little one was happy for Hank in doggy heaven though, that's a good brother/friend.

What a beautiful moving tribute. Sitting here on the couch all welled up after sharing the story with my wife...
